Prestiging

In this post I'll be showing you the new Prestige system in Black Ops 2. Treyarch have changed it up quite a bit so I'll run ya through it!

Level Prestiging
This is the same type of Prestiging that's been in every Call of Duty game ever made. The basics of Level Prestiging is that once you hit the highest level in multiplayer, you have the option to prestige. This will reset you back to Level 1. However, you will also receive one of the Prestige emblems and get 'Prestige [Prestige No.]' in your description. However, there's been a little bit of a change (as far as I'm aware), so I'll run you through.

WHAT DO I KEEP AFTER PRESTIGING?
Well, you keep quite a couple of things. First off, you do not lose your gun stats. All gun levels, attachments and camos are saved and you will simply have to re-unlock the gun in order to get all your stuff back again. You also keep all the challenges you completed before prestiging. This means that any different reticles or challenges that you earned will stay with you. This is what you keep after Level Prestiging.

WHAT DO I LOSE AFTER PRESTIGING?
Pretty much nothing. You just lose the ability to use all your guns until you unlock them again.

WHAT DO I GAIN AFTER PRESTIGING?
You happen to gain a couple of things after Prestiging. First off, you unlock the Prestige calling cards and challenge set, which allows you to get more calling cards and complete more challenges, adding up to awesome amounts of XP. You also gain 1 Permanent Unlock token, which you can use to unlock any weapon/perk/wildcard/equipment/scorestreak forever. The last thing you earn after Prestiging is one of the three different Prestige Awards. These give you boosts in game in case you'll ever need it. I'll go through them all:

  • Fresh Start: You can choose to start all the way back at Level 1. Can only be done once per Prestige.
  • Refund: This refunds all of your Unlock Tokens that you earned in a Prestige, which basically means if you unlocked a bunch of stuff you didn't want, you can reset and unlock everything you DID want. Can only be used once per Prestige.
  • Extra CaC Slot: Allows you to add an extra Create-a-Class slot. You can have up to 10 Create-a-Classes and this can only be used once per Prestige.

Weapon Prestiging
This is the new feature added by Treyarch and it gets a lot of people confused when it really isn't too hard to understand! Here's the run-down:

WHAT DO I KEEP AFTER WEAPON PRESTIGING?
Thankfully, you keep the one thing which matters a lot to a player's gun: your camos will be safe after gun prestiging!

WHAT DO I LOSE AFTER WEAPON PRESTIGING?
The only thing you lose is your weapon level: it goes all the way back down to Level 1, which means you have to re-unlock every attachment again: but no big deal, after prestiging your gun twice and getting it to the max level, you get to keep all your attachments!

WHAT DO I GAIN AFTER WEAPON PRESTIGING?
All of your challenges reset. Wait, why is this a part of what you gain? Because it means you can get all the XP you got from completing them challenges over again! The other things you unlock depend on whether the gun is 1st prestige or 2nd prestige. At 1st Prestige, you can put your Clan Tag on your weapon, and at 2nd Prestige you can put your Custom Emblem on your weapon, which is awesome!

Prestige Emblems
Every time you Prestige you will receive a new emblem which shows as your rank emblem in Black Ops 2! There are 11 in total so far, and I'll update this if any more are added, but here are the 11:

PRESTIGE 1

This emblem looks like a 2-headed bird (likely a Phoenix), embedded onto a shield shape and surrounded by a metal chain. You earn this by going from Level 1 to 55 (55 levels in total ever) and then going into Prestige Mode.

PRESTIGE 2

This emblem is a fist holding a lightning bolt, and the arms looks like it has come out from the sea. This picture is put on a shield shape and has two swords diagonally crossing each other. You earn this by going from Level 1 to 55 (110 levels in total ever) at Prestige 1 and then going into Prestige Mode.

PRESTIGE 3
